I've had my W222 for a couple of weeks now and forgot to check the AC when collecting the car. The pre purchase inspection identified the AC as not cold, possibly requiring a regas.
The company I purchased from agreed to reimburse the cost. I had a chap come out today to do it only to find the refrigerant is R744, so was unable to do anything.
I am in the process of getting prices - my local MB Colchester is getting back to me.
However, I have the AC turned down to Lo today and eventually it went cold! Before I shell out the best part of £300 am I doing something wrong working it?
I have it on auto 22 deg with AC enabled - just wondered if in the W222 it's different to my old W212.
Thanks

If the temperature is set to 22c and the a/c is not blowing cold, its probably because the ambient temperature is nowhere near 22c.
On a warm day, try turning the temperature down to 15/16c and you should find the a/c blows cold as it should.

Thanks - I wasn't expecting cold when set@22 deg. It's when I turned down to 16 and then Lo it hasn't been cold until today.

An aircon specialist may be a good bet, they can use dye to check for leaks etc.
You are near me if you use Colchester, I hear Kool Runnins are good aircon specialists:-

Is that to convert or simply service using older refrigerant?

A quick check with the computer, will tell you whether the pressures are changing when the AC compressor is engaged, or whether its a placebo effect. etc.

update from MB Colchester:
We have also investigated the leak in the aircon, Check system and confirmed aircon not working, fit charger and diagnostic kit and run quick test, low gas pressure, regaled system and tested, found leak on pipe but even after regas the compressor performance is very poor, suspect lack of gas has damaged aircon compressor. We need to replace aircon compressor and both pipes to compressor and retest system. Unable to complete testing without running system at full pressure and this is not possible due to bad compressor performance. Aircon compressor and both pipes need replacing would need replacing for a cost of £3,862.56.

I'd be inclined to get an a/c compressor from Autodoc, the a/c pipes from the dealer and get an indy to fit it and recharge the a/c. Got to be cheaper than main dealer.
Enter your car details into this link for a price. Nissens and Denso are both recommended brands.

Plenty of independent specialists out there who will repair for a fraction of that cost.

Thanks - they were initially my first port of call but I cancelled them as they were £300 for service vs £160ish MB. I'll let the supplying dealer where I bought the car from sort it, as it's only 1 month since purchase and this was noted at point of sale.

That's what happens to cars when people don't use the air con, if you get it fixed, leave it on permanently.

Wow yes statutory warranty would apply with right to reject if they don't play ball!

I always have it on, only ever needed to get my W212 re-gassed once in 8 years.
